# Websites for home-service businesses that actually win jobs

Pressure washing, fencing, landscaping, detailing — the trades have their own conversion physics. Three things do most of the work: photo proof, an instant estimate, and a phone number one thumb-tap away.

A home-service website has one job: turn the homeowner standing in their driveway into a quote request before they hit the back button. That's a different job than a restaurant site or a law firm site, and it rewards different things. After building sites for Houston service businesses, we'd put nearly all of the result down to three elements — and most trade websites have none of them.

## 1\. Before/after photos are your sales team

In the trades, the work is visual and the doubt is visual: _will my driveway, fence, or truck actually look different?_ A before/after pair answers that in half a second, in a way no paragraph can. It's proof you've done this exact job on a house like theirs — the same proof that makes those photos your best material on Google and social.

Two rules make photo galleries convert. Use your real jobs — homeowners can smell stock photography, and a stock photo makes them wonder what your actual work looks like. And keep the gallery fresh: a gallery that stops eighteen months ago whispers that the business might have too. (Taking two photos per job, every job, is the single highest-leverage marketing habit in the trades.)

## 2\. An instant estimate calculator beats "contact us for a quote"

Homeowners hate a price vacuum. "Contact us for a free quote" asks them to commit before they know if you're in their budget — so many quietly leave to find someone who'll just say a number. An instant estimate calculator flips it: a few taps (driveway, roughly this size, add the patio) and they see a ballpark figure right there. Nobody's forced to call a stranger; the calculator does the awkward part.

We built exactly this for [Bald Bros Power Washing](/work.md) here in Houston — a mobile-first site where the estimate calculator turns visitors straight into quote requests. It's been their front door since day one, and it's the pattern we'd recommend to almost any trade: the visitor gets a number, you get a lead with the job details already filled in, and the leads that arrive are warmer because they've self-qualified on price. Want to feel the difference yourself? [Play with the live calculator demo](/calculator.md). As an add-on it's [quoted with your build](/pricing.md), custom logic priced up front — typically a job or two to pay for itself.

## 3\. Call or text, one tap, from anywhere on the page

Your visitor is on a phone. The distance between "interested" and "contacted you" should be one thumb-tap: a phone number that dials when tapped, visible at the top and again at the bottom, ideally with a texting option — a growing share of homeowners, especially younger ones, simply won't cold-call but will happily text a photo of their fence. If reaching you requires zooming in on a number or filling out a six-field form, you're losing the jobs that were easiest to win.

## The supporting cast

Behind those three, the fundamentals still apply: fast on mobile data (driveway Wi-Fi doesn't exist), pages for each city you serve so "fence repair katy" can find you, Google reviews visible on the site, and a [well-kept Google Business Profile](/guides/google-business-profile-houston.md) feeding the whole machine. None of it exotic — just rarely all present at once.

## What this costs, concretely

Typical builds run $1,500–$5,000, one-time — five pages, mobile-first, contact form, on-page SEO, Google Business setup — and with us [yours is quoted up front to your exact scope](/websites.md), owned outright: code, content, and domain. Add the estimate calculator (quoted with your build) if your pricing has shape to it (square footage, linear feet, vehicle size — it usually does). Optional monthly care from $49 keeps it hosted, fresh, and alive after launch, so the gallery doesn't stop eighteen months from now.
